(Written by me, Charlie. Translated by my mom, Katie.)

My story begins in April of 2023. Well, it started before that, when I was born, but no one knows when that was because I was born into what the humans call a hoarding situation. All I know is that there were so many other four-leggeds in the house, like me, that it wasn’t always safe to eat, and my fur was really tangled. I think, maybe, I got my tail stepped on a lot, too. I don’t remember that life, though.

Because then, in April of 2023, some people came and rescued me and my litter mates from the house where we were living. A few days after that, I was dropped off at Mom and Dad’s house, but I didn’t know it was safe at the time. It was quiet: only two cats and two humans, and food and water twice a day without any fights. It was difficult to trust at first, but every day, they fed me, took me outside (where I had never been), and took me to sleep with them. And every day, little by little, I started to feel safe and relax into what would be my home.

Now, nearly two years later, I’m loving life. I’ve got lots of blankets and soft spots around the house. I now have (human) cousins. We’ve traveled to Alabama and Kentucky. We go hiking, which sometimes I have to ride along because my legs are wonky. I love couch time with Mom and Dad, sitting on Mom’s lap, running outside, porch time (especially in the sunshine), sunshine, snacks — especially anything with strong flavors, pizza, and venison. Biscotti. I really love a biscotti crumb.

I don’t love cold weather, snow, rain, or fast movements. Or baths or what Mom calls “spa day” when she trims my nails. Since we do live in a place where it seems to get cold for a long while, though, I’m really grateful for the wood stove and the heat it provides.

One other thing I really love about my family is that I can go to work with them. I’ve embraced my role as Greeter, which means I get to sniff you as you get out your vehicle. Then, I’ll show you the way to the treatment room, and curl up in my bed while Mom (I usually work with her) works with clients. Sometimes I bark if I hear Dad or if it’s close to dinner time, but mostly I’m quiet and appreciate the vibe.

I’m so happy here. I love our life: the cuddles, the adventure, and the peace — and the snacks.
